The former government district in Bonn is now home to federal institutions, international organizations and companies. With the establishment of the United Nations and the opening of the World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB), a location with an international focus has emerged here in recent years. In order to address the special significance and development of this area, the city of Bonn commissioned the redesign of the public open spaces around the WCCB and the UN Campus. To this end, the landscape architecture firm scape developed a concept that builds on the existing qualities of the location and connects the respective open spaces with a concise design. The design intervenes only minimally in the building structure of the site and transforms the former government district into a modern campus with its own identity.
In this context, various pieces of outdoor furniture from the SITHU series were created in close consultation with the planners, which shape the character of the new urban space based on a stringent basic design. The various seating elements are characterized by their unusual shape, their variable lengths and their large amount of space. Depending on the situation and function, they were designed as decks, stools or benches with backrests. They invite people to sit, relax and linger, flanking all important pathways and creating a space with a high quality of stay.
The basic shape of the SITHU series is defined by rounded edges and supporting elements made of steel. In order to create the greatest possible three-dimensionality, the side panels of the seating objects are made of cast aluminum. The wooden support made of FSC-certified hardwood is handcrafted in detail and contributes to the modern and inviting aesthetic of the seating objects.
