The town hall district in Solingen comprises various buildings housing apartments, stores, restaurants and administrative offices for municipal services. For the redesign of the quarter, the landscape architecture firm scape developed a concept that connects the existing areas with the help of a uniform design line and creates an attractive public space. Through a close interplay of architecture and open space planning, various squares and promenades with different uses were created. The continuous paving of dark and light-colored concrete slabs connects the various subspaces and gives the area a uniform identity.

The urban entrance to the Rathausquartier is defined by a spacious, barrier-free square, the design of which was inspired by the flow of people. The generous open spaces were deliberately used here to leave room for events and outdoor seating for the restaurants. The SANA seating platforms, which were created in collaboration with the planners, form the center of the town hall square. In combination with the groups of trees, they invite residents, visitors and those who work here to linger and relax.
